Program Description:

This programme is based in the Operational Research Group within the Department of Management and offers the following benefits: The chance to choose options to reflect your interests. The opportunity to apply theory to practice in an organisation based project. Preparation for employment in the management services divisions of major companies, public sector organisations and management consultancies. There is a growing demand for technically skilled graduates in financial institutions. In many organisations operational research (OR) is seen as a prime source for recruitment into higher levels of general management. This MSc will give you a firm grounding in OR techniques and enable you to develop interests in theoretical or applied areas of your choice. This includes the opportunity to study new developments in mathematical programming, system dynamics and decision analysis. Compulsory courses in: techniques of operational research; methods for organisational change through model building and problem formulation; computer modeling: applied statistics and simulation; computer modeling: applied statistics and mathematical programming. Choose from a large range of other options to the value of one and a half units. At the end of the programme, you will experience the world of or modlling in practice through a three month summer project where you apply theory to tackle a real problem in an organisation. This work is presented in a written dissertation.
