Program Description:

Aims of the course This programme offers a professional training to qualify as a social worker and the opportunity to study for a Masters degree. The qualification is designed to emphasise the development of skills in analysis and assessment, build the confidence to apply knowledge to practice, and increase practitioners' ability to create opportunities for users, and to work collaboratively with other professions. The award has been designed in partnership with key stakeholders representing employers and service users who will play an important role in the ongoing development of the course. An important aspect of the programme is its inter-professional curriculum, designed alongside Community Health professionals to reflect practice, and informed by service users' and carers' experiences. This University has many years of experience in offering postgraduate courses in Social Work, and has been accredited by the General Social Care Council (GSCC) as an approved institution to offer this award. Entry requirements A second class honours degree or above normally in a social science subject, supported by English and mathematics skills equivalent to GCSE grade C. You must have previous experience either in a paid or voluntary capacity of working in the broad area of social work or related 'caring' roles. At the time of application, applicants must have had at least 6 months experience and also had opportunities to develop a greater understanding of the experience of service users and shadow an experienced social worker. This experience will be assessed during the selection process. It is expected that you will produce two satisfactory references. One of the two references must be from a current or previous employer/organisation in which the candidate gained the above-mentioned experience. All offers of places will be subject to satisfactory Health and Police checks and suitable references.
