Program Description:

Aims of the course This course is designed for qualified nurses with a relevant first degree who wish to acquire a Specialist Practitioner qualification recorded on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Professional Register. The course encourages you to develop your critical thinking and problem-solving skills and integrates practice and theory through assessments and clinical support in placements. Multi-agency working with other students from the statutory and voluntary sectors is an important part of the programme. There is an emphasis on relevant policy issues that influence the changing context of primary care and the development of community health within it. The course seeks to have a clear user-centred focus, as well as promoting the development of public health skills. The course also has a considerable practice and work-based component in order to develop specialist and higher level skills. Specialist branches currently offered are: Community Mental Health Nursing District Nursing Practice Nursing Entry requirements You must be a registered nurse with a live NMC registration on the appropriate part/s of the NMC register for your chosen branch, for example, health visiting. Normally two years post-registration experience is required and a good Honours degree in a relevant subject. You will require an appropriate placement to undertake this course. There are information sessions throughout the year for candidates to learn more about the course and find out about sponsorship. Course structure You must complete and pass six modules. The cores are: Evaluating Research and Evidence-based Practice Partnership Working and Management Mental Health in Primary Care Practice 1 - Assessing Individuals, Groups, and Families Practice 2 - Public Health and Health Profiling Specialist Module - varies depending on your chosen branch.
