Program Description:

The MSc in Russian Politics and Society provides students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to analyze a broad range of contemporary Russian policy challenges in applied settings. The programme will appeal to graduates of programmes of Russian/Slavonic studies and European, energy or security studies, as well as those on other programmes who have developed an interest in Russia within those contexts and/or who anticipate a career involving work in or about Russia. The MSc in Russian Politics & Society is designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to analyze a broad range of contemporary Russian policy challenges in applied settings, as well as the theoretical basis needed for analysis and engagement in broader thematic and geographic contexts. Students will gain an in-depth knowledge of the interlocking social, political and economic challenges that have faced Russia in recent decades, a fluency in Russian current events and an understanding of a range of disciplinary and theoretical approaches to policy and academic analysis. In addition, through students will pursue specialized research and learning in a field of their choosing, deepening their disciplinary and academic grounding. Throughout, students will be aware of the comparative context and encouraged to use their knowledge of the Russian case to challenge existing global theoretical and policy approaches.
