This programme provides teaching and research training at postgraduate level in nineteenth-century studies. It draws on expertise located across departments in the School of Arts & Humanities and the School of Social Sciences & Public Policy in the history, literature, visual culture, built environment and legacy of the nineteenth-century world. The MA provides an excellent training in research as well as preparation for a range of careers including work in the heritage sector, arts administration, the cultural and creative industries and teaching.
The programme offers a very wide range of optional modules in the departments of History, English, Geography and elsewhere. Students have the option of working as as an intern with heritage providers, archives and museum services on a piece of research that counts as part of the degree. Students also have the option of studying a modern language as part of their degree programme.
