Program Description:

This programme is designed for experienced practitioners who wish to advance their clinical practice, develop their professional career and enhance their knowledge of research and evidence-based healthcare in community nursing. This pathway aims to bring an advanced nurse practitioner level of practice to district nursing to meet, and to encourage, evolving service delivery models with a strong emphasis on clinical leadership. Components of leadership relevant to advanced practice in district nursing include the use of robust evaluation methodology so that practice is prescribed, delivered and audited, based on understanding of the search for, and use of, valid data. Leadership within district nursing also require the skills to manage and develop staff, and to work effectively with other agencies. The programme, mapped against the RCN competences for advanced nursing practice also provides practitioners with the opportunity to qualify as independent/ supplementary prescribers.
