The Durham MBA is accredited by the Association of MBAs and is well regarded for its good quality by recruiting and sponsoring organisations. The programme is continually developed to respond to the needs of industry, commerce and the public sector and is comprehensive in its coverage of management topics, with emphasis on improving key skills and personal development. The MBA is delivered in three stages; a foundation stage delivering core modules to establish management knowledge and understanding, followed by an elective stage which provides an opportunity to enhance knowledge and skills in areas of particular interest. The elective stage allows students to tailor their degree to a particular specialism or choose a generalist route. The programme culminates in a 15,000-word dissertation on a business topic. Students can choose between an academic dissertation or a project-based report following time spent with a company on a business project. The 'business project' is an exciting and popular initiative. It is an opportunity to put your new skills into practice in the real world. The business project is a very rewarding part of the MBA learning experience, and can often be a stepping-stone to a new career. Graduation is the programme’s finale, where students gather with family and friends, and members and associates of the Business School to celebrate the conferring of degrees in the magnificent setting of Durham Cathedral.
