Program Description:

The MA in Victorian Studies is a two-year, part-time modular program, which reinforces current interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to postgraduate study. This popular program is offered jointly by the departments of History, English Literature, Theology and Religious Studies, Art and Drama.

The Master of Arts program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to acquire arepresentative overview of Victorian culture and society, to explore specific themes in depth, and to conductoriginal research in selected fields. Programs of study capitalize upon the rich Victorian cultural heritageof Cheshire and South Lancashire, with particular reference to civic buildings, museums, art galleries andheritage centers, and are supported by an excellent collection of primary and secondary sources depositedin the College Library, Chester City Record Office and Cheshire County Record Office. Students also haveaccess to the magnificent collection of books, pamphlets, contemporary periodicals, letters, biographies andGladstoniana deposited in St. Deiniol's Library, Hawarden. The program is taught by an experienced team of tutors with specialist research interests in the Victorian period. All teaching within the MA program is organized within a flexible framework of lectures, seminars, workshops, individual tutorials and field-visits, as appropriate. Sessions are normally held in the evenings between 18.30 and 20.30.
