Program Description:

The program incorporates elements of political, social and economic history, but the emphasis is upon exploring the history and presentation of Britain's landscapes, buildings and settlements.

Students have the opportunity to explore specific themes in depth and to conduct original research usingphysical and documentary evidence. Although many modules explore England and Wales or Britain as a whole, considerable emphasis is placed upon the rich historical resources available in the region, includingChester itself, Cheshire, North-West England, the Northern Marches and North-East Wales. In addition, Cheshire County Records Office (based in Chester) and other repositories in North-East Wales, Shropshire,Staffordshire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Lancashire offer rich and often under-exploreddocumentary sources for the study of human impact upon the landscape.
