Medieval and Early Modern History
International Centre, Queens Road
Queen's Road, Clifton
This innovative masters programme invites students to explore a wide variety historical themes - political and social, economic and intellectual - across the Medieval and the Early Modern periods. Traditional programmes tend to make a strict separation between these two epochs emphasising the different and distinctive characteristics of each. The aim of this programme is to re-examine - and perhaps, to challenge - the basis of this rigid periodisation. Students will have the opportunity to study topics on either side of the conventional dividing line of 1500 but they will also be encouraged to trace the development of those movements and trends whose origins were Medieval but whose influence could still be felt in the age of Reformation and beyond.
