Research Master's Programme in Metropolitan Studies
MSc Metropolitan Studies
The research master's programme in Metropolitan Studies is a two-year programme leading to a Master of Science degree. The programme builds on the research and expertise present in AMIDSt (Amsterdam Institute for Metropolitan and Development Studies) and the GPIO, School of Geography and Planning. Metropolitan problems are approached from an institutional point of view (core course World Cities and Metropolitan Governance and Spatial Planning), from a social point of view (core course Social Challenges for the City in a Globalising World) and from an economic point of view (core course Cities in a Network Economy).
The emphasis of the programme lies on comparative learning in an international and multidisciplinary context. Training in comparative methodology, a stay abroad and a thesis reflecting the international, comparative perspective are part of the programme.
The quality of this master's programme has been positively assessed (accredited) by the Accreditation Organisation of The Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO). This means that upon successful completion of the programme students will receive a legally recognised Master of Science (MSc) degree in Metropolitan Studies.
