Program Information

Degrees Offered:

MA - Language Communication

Format: Campus

Program Description:

The programme is unique because language and communication are treated as a single unit with each field complementing the other. The programme is also special because it focuses strongly on empirical research by studying real language in real-life situations to develop possible theories and then testing these theories against everyday reality to discover the richness of both language and communication.

As the programme is in collaboration with Tilburg University you can also follow some lectures there.

In the first semester of the first year, you are able to explore the different research fields in language and communication that are focused upon in Nijmegen and Tilburg. In the rest of the programme you will specialise in one of these fields and you will integrate in one of the research groups in Nijmegen or Tilburg.

As a Master’s student in Language and Communication you will find yourself in a challenging research environment. The university has experts in language variation and language diversity, language technology, sign language, intercultural communication, persuasive communication, optimal communication and the ways in which language can be processed. These specialists work closely with colleagues in the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics (MPI) and the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour (FI BCB). As a result, Radboud University can provide you with an exceptional.

Most of our graduates go on to do a PhD, either in Nijmegen, Tilburg or elsewhere. Besides research positions at universities, there are research and management positions in businesses, (non-profit) organisations, the educational sector and the government (e.g. the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science), which require extensive research skills but not a PhD degree.
