Master of Arts in Historical Studies, taught jointly with the Department of Medieval Studies (two years), Doctor of Philosophy in Comparative History of Central, Southeastern and Eastern Europe (PhD) (3-6 years)
The program specifically addresses the needs of students who have a three-year study background in history (or a related discipline). This is a multifaceted degree program, strongly underpinned by a systematic introduction into interdisciplinary and comparative theories, methods and research skills; it is focused on Central, Southeastern and Eastern Europe from late antiquity to contemporary times.
Modern Historiography; Historical Methodology; The Late Ottoman Empire and Balkan Nationalism; Comparative Urban Change; Political Modernities and Nation-building in Central and Southeastern Europe; Imperial Legacies, Religion and the Formation of Modern Nation-states; Producing Relevant Knowledge: The Enlightenment Paradigm; Modernism and Modernity in European Art; Totalitarianism and Mass Politics in Modern Central Europe; Social Change Under Communism
