Program Description:

Building on a long tradition of successful cultural sciences education in Lüneburg, the new Master's degree in Culture, Arts and Media opens an interdisciplinary dialogue with various humanities and social science disciplines. Students will have the opportunity to explore the full complexity of a research question, to understand its historical context and to formulate new answers through the interplay of various different perspectives. Early on, the degree program gives students the opportunity to concentrate on their own topics and to pursue independent projects. They focus on cultural artifacts, practical norms, institutions and media, as well as areas of cultural production. Cultural sciences are concerned both with high culture and with art, as well as with popular, everyday culture. Through social analysis and historical explanations the importance of cultural factors, including symbolic power and domination, are given particular consideration. The Master's degree program complements and deepens your previous studies in cultural sciences with a special accent on either art and visual culture or media and communication. Course Structure The interdisciplinary course structure is composed of various fields: As their shared foundation, all students enroll in the integrative cultural analysis. They offer students the opportunity to broaden their academic horizons: for example, by gaining insight into history and literat
