Program Information

Degrees Offered:

MA in Arab and Islamic Studies forthcoming in 2010, Dissertations may be prepared on any area of Arab or Islamic Studies agreed with the dissertation supervisor, subject to approval of the relevant committee. They are normally written in English, but may be written in Danish or German. If the dissertation is submitted in English or German, the summary must be in Danish. Assistance in preparing a Danish summary will be offered to those who do not know Danish. If the dissertation is written in Danish, it must be accompanied by a summary in English or German. Advanced knowledge of Arabic or of another Islamic language is required. Knowledge of Danish is not required.

Program Description:

The Arab and Islamic Studies Unit’s general research focuses on the religion, society, and politics of the modern Middle East. Key specializations are Sufism and Islam in Europe. A major current project is on Islam, Muslims and Danish Schools. There is also research on the classical period 5of Arab civilization and on Arabic literature.
