Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies
Ph.D., M.A. (thesis and non-thesis options)
The aim of the Graduate Program in Linguistics is to train researchers in theoretical linguistics and its applications, particularly the issue of language diversity, and how this diversity may be related to a universal underlying linguistic competence. This common interest is developed in a range of areas including the parameterization of formal grammars (phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics), the acquisition of these grammars (as a first or a second language), the study of cross-linguistic deficits (e.g. in bilingual aphasia anddevelopmental language disorders), and the use of language (sociolinguistics).
