Regular MA program
This program is suitable for those students who want to undertake graduate study in mathematics or statistics. To be admitted, students normally must hold an honours degree in mathematics or statistics. Students with an honours degree in other mathematics-intensive disciplines (e.g. Computer Science, Science, Economics) and who have a broad knowledge of mathematics or statistics are also considered.
Graduate Diploma in Finanical Engineering
The Financial Engineering program at York is designed to provide the relevant training in finance, mathematics, and computer science which is necessary to understand, design and value new financial instruments: for example, the various types of derivative securities which are prevalent in modern financial markets.
It is set up as a diploma program. This means that the student completes either the regular MA degree in Mathematics and Statistics, and in addition completes a set of Financial Engineering Core Courses plus an Internship or a Research Paper. With the completion of the core courses and the internship/research paper, the student will be awarded a separate Diploma in Financial Engineering in addition to their regular Master's Degree.
Graduate Diploma in Mathematics Education - Degree Concurrent
This degree concurrent diploma allows students to specialize formally in the area of Mathematics Education. For those students who successfully complete both the graduate diploma and the masters degree for which they are registered, the diploma is noted on the student’s transcript and awarded at the convocation at which the degree is awarded or at the subsequent convocation. Students in the PhD program take advanced level course work and write a dissertation (thesis) containing original research results. Members of the program have expertise in a wide variety of areas in mathematics, statistics and related disciplines. A detailed listing of the faculty and their fields of interest appears below.
To be admitted as a PhD student, an applicant must have a Master's degree in mathematics or statistics or must have completed at least one year of comparable studies.
