Degrees Offered:

Earth and Space Science

Format: Campus

Program Description:

This program is a multidisciplinary research program associated with the Centre for Research in Earth & Space Science (CRESS). You’ll join a group of students from a wide range of backgrounds, including physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science and engineering. Opportunities for interdisciplinary research arise partly due to the program’s proximity to the departments of Physics & Astronomy, Engineering and part of the Chemistry department. You’ll have access to specialized research facilities that include: 30-cm and 60-cm telescopes; CCD cameras; ultra high vacuum chambers; mass spectrometers; high bandwidth transient digitizers; lock-in amplifiers and a variety of lasers including YAG, excimer, argon ion and stabilized ring dye lasers. State-of-the-art laboratories include the CRESS Space Instrumentation Laboratory, the GeoICT (Geospatial Information and Communication Technology) Lab and computing facilities associated with the project A Community Approach to Multiscale Air Quality Modelling and Forecasting. You’ll have the opportunity to join a number of atmospheric science research projects conducted in collaboration with the Meteorological Service of Canada and groups from other universities, while space science projects such as Phoenix, OSIRIS on Odin and SWIFT involve collaboration with local companies (MDA, Optech, EMS technologies etc) as well as the Canadian Space Agency, ESA, NASA and JPL. Conduct your research through the exploration of atmospheric modelling, chemistry, computer science, earth science geomatics, mathematics, physics and astronomy, psychology, remote sensing and space observations.
