Fine Art

Program Description:

The Master of Fine Art (M.F.A.) program in the School of Art emphasizes the development of a strong studio practice, with faculty challenging students to develop insights into contemporary art practices that support exploration and innovation. Students work towards a thesis exhibition and written statement that will mark the successful completion of the program. Students in the M.F.A. program participate in a dynamic environment in a city known for its cultural excellence. The program builds on the long reputation of the School of Art for graduating energetic artists and scholars who establish successful careers and make significant contributions to local, national and international cultural communities. In 2012 the School of Art moved into ARTlab, a 70,000 square-foot building with facilities to accommodate traditional studios and technologies as well as state-of-the-art digital technologies for experimentation and research. By 2014, renovations to the adjacent former student residence, Taché Hall, will add much needed studio spaces for graduate students, offices for School of Art faculty members, and a student gallery.
