Program Description:

The Master of Education program is offered through two departments: The Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning offers study in a wide array of curriculum areas and streams (or specialized areas such as curriculum theory, development and reform; and inquiry into teacher practice and professional development); Language and Literacy Education; and Second Language Education. The Department of Educational Administration, Foundations, and Psychology offers specialization in the areas of: Educational Administration; Cross-cultural, Sociological, and Philosophical Foundations of Education; Guidance and Counseling; Inclusive Special Education; and Adult and Post-Secondary Education. The Faculty offers a small Ph.D. program with areas of specialization in Language and Literacy, Science Education, Educational Administration, and Mathematics Education and cohorts for innovative research interests. There are provisions for an ad hoc program when there is a match between the interest of the student and resources in the Faculty. There is limited enrolment in the Ph.D. program. The Faculty of Education is the leader in teacher education, professional development and educational research within Manitoba. Today our graduates are holding leadership positions in educational systems within Manitoba and beyond. The M.Ed. allows for studies by professionals in the field of education. Courses are offered in the evening (fall and winter) and during summer months (May/June and July/August). Summer institutes are developed to provide opportunities for intensive studies in related areas. Some of the specializations offer innovative delivery modes. The M.Ed. has flexibility to adapt to the needs of cohorts.
