Program Description:

The Department of Economics offers a full range of modern programs from a variety of critical perspectives. Students in the Economics graduate programs not only become proficient in current economic theory, methods, and applications, but also become acquainted with some history of economic thought and economic history. Enrolment is limited in order to sustain the flexibility and other advantages of a small graduate program and to tailor the program to individual needs. The Department is committed to the interaction of ideas and intellectual discussion of Economics from a variety of perspectives, and offers a strong record of teaching excellence and a commitment to an environment that facilitates student learning. Faculty members have won national (3M) teaching fellowships and University of Manitoba teaching excellence awards and several graduate students have won Faculty of Arts Graduate Student Teaching Awards. In recent years the Department has instituted a capstone conference for Honours students to present their research and an Economics Graduate Student Computing Lab in Fletcher Argue Building.
