Program Description:

This program is a multi-unit, research-based Ph.D. that includes the treatment and discussion at a graduate level of applied health science as a multi-dimensional entity, while at the same time allows for individualized high-quality health science research with an individual researcher, or small group of researchers. The four participating academic units are: Human Ecology, Kinesiology and Recreation Management, Nursing, and Medical Rehabilitation. Applied Health Sciences (AHS) combines the strengths of the in-depth discipline-specific learning needed to prepare Ph.D. graduates, with the benefits of collaborative learning with students and faculty in other disciplines. AHS offers a unique multi-dimensional research-based doctoral program that combines the knowledge bases of complementary applied health sciences. Those who complete the program emerge with an understanding of the importance and pertinence of collaborative approaches to applied health sciences research, while adding to the body of knowledge in the important field of the interactive nature of the determinants of health.
