The School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research (SSPSSR) has a long and distinguished history, and is one of the largest and most successful social science research communities in Europe.
It has received top ratings in Research Assessment Exercises, and most recently had 70% of its work judged as either ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ in terms of its “originality, significance and rigour”.
Taught through distance learning, the programme gives you a thorough understanding of the social science ideas and research methods that are applied to the study and development of social and public policy. This includes an advanced understanding of governmental strategies that can be used to develop and improve human well-being. It also considers how governments and other agencies influence, create, implement and evaluate policies in this area. It uses UK and international examples to help you develop your ability to study and create effective social and public policy.
