Grad.-Advanced Studies in Archivistics and Contemporary Document Administration
The training of the archivists includes as well the records system management as the management of records offices and, so doing, prepares to a career with administrative als well as scientific components. Archival theory (principles and terminology) and practice, legislation and deontology are the main subject. The students are trained to analyse the information flow in relation to the organization of the records, to establish a global records management system and to consult the administration on several topics (classification scheme, preservation, conservation, etc.). The scientific component appears clearly when the problems about appraisal are touched and by making inventories of historical archives. Three flemish universities collaborate: the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, the Universiteit Gent and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. All obligatory subjects are teached in Brussels, optional subjects can also be attended at the other universities. Only graduates in history are allowed without conditions, other graduates are only allowed when they preliminary succeed a number of historical subjects.
