Founded in 1632, the University of Tartu (UT) is Estonia’s leading centre of research and training. It is the biggest and the oldest university in Estonia focused on high-quality studies and research. The University of Tartu is the only university in the Baltics that belongs to the top 1.2% of world's best universities by ranking 285th in the QS World University Rankings 2020 

There are over 13 000 students studying in UT, including more than 1800 international students from over 105 countries. The university offers broad exchange opportunities through partnership agreements with other universities in 26 countries and student exchange programs through Erasmus+ and ISEP.

Most of UT's buildings, faculties and institutes are located in Tartu, the second biggest city in Estonia. However, its branches and institutes are spread in other Estonian cities: Tallinn, Pärnu, Viljandi and Narva. Currently, UT offers 27 international study programs taught in English at Bachelor's and Master's level, and PhD programs as well.

Students in Tartu experience safe, modern and innovative study environment. It is known as the City of Good Thoughts, Capital of Culture in Estonia and  a lively student city. Twice a year in spring and autumn students organize over 150 events during Student Days, including a boat rally, song festival, dance festival, Walpurgis Night, student band competitions, student film festival, etc.
