Earning a Ph.D. in environmental policy typically requires 5-7 years of full time study.  Students in an environmental science Ph.D. program are likely to spend a great deal of time performing research into the topic of environmental policy that most interests them.  Broadly speaking, environmental science Ph.D. students might choose to concentrate their research into topics such as economics and environmental policy, waste management standards for urban communities, or ecological impacts of air pollution regulation.
