Rural Sociology is a branch of sociology that focuses on the study of life in the country and in small towns. It involves the study of social arrangements and behavior among people who are distanced from areas of concentrated activity. Students will study biotechnology and society, the design and analysis of social research, statistical analysis, and gender roles and society. They will learn about health in rural areas, wildlife and society, and agriculture and food systems. Coursework may include topics such as social action, community development, program evaluation techniques and qualitative research methods. Graduates can go on to careers as directors of policy development, legal advocates, natural resources research scientists, survey research scientists and more.
