The field of Physical Education Today's generation of students spends more sedentary time than any previous one. This is a result of both the variety and attractiveness of activities like computer games and Internet use, as well as a general decrease in the amount of time spent outdoors and engaged in physical activity. Physical education teachers afford students the opportunity to learn about the benefits of physical activity, as well as how the body functions when engaged in them. They also, by virtue of the nature of their profession, teach students about the value of sportsmanship, dedication, and fair competition. As a result, they are just as much coaches in the ins and outs of life as they are specialists in physical activity.
