MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY
Graduate School Programs - Master's, Ph.D.
Medicinal Chemistry features an integration of chemistry and pharmacology, and focuses on the relationship of chemical structure and dynamics to biological effects and functions. The field aims to discover and design new drugs, and to investigate the interaction of drugs and toxic substances with biological systems. It involves a combination of synthetic chemistry, molecular modeling, computational biology, structural genomics and pharmacology. Students will study drug metabolism, antibiotics, cancer chemotherapy and central nervous system drugs. Graduates can become synthetic organic chemists, medicinal chemistry scientists, executives in medicinal chemistry, computational chemists and more.
