Linguistics is the scientific study of language and its structure. It focuses on describing and explaining language, as well as the discovery of the universal aspects of languages. It is a branch of social science along with psychology, anthropology and archaeology, and it influences English, communications and computer science. Linguistics majors focus on how the brain functions, as well as on phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and language acquisition. Students will master the methods and results of their chosen area of concentration. Graduates can become speech therapists, translators, artificial intelligence engineers, computational linguists, clinical linguistic directors and more.
