About the field of History: The study of history involves examining the past and the human experience in all its facets. History degrees are a good foundation for a number of careers including university and college professors ( EDUCATION - POST SECONDARY ), secondary school teachers ( EDUCATION - TEACHING HISTORY/SOCIAL SCIENCE , EDUCATION - SECONDARY ) and administrators ( EDUCATION(AL) ADMINISTRATION ), museum directors ( MUSEUM STUDIES ), and public service professionals. History majors practice and hone their research and critical thinking skills as they examine the past through many different lenses and learn to determine the truth of the past and what lessons and conclusions can be drawn from their studies to help future generations build upon the knowledge available to them. Many programs utilize modern technology to both inform the research process for students, as well as to allow students to communicate their historical insights to a modern, technologically advanced society. A related field that emphasizes these same ideas is Public History .
