Biometrics and biostatistics involve the creation and development of
statistical
and mathematical formulas whose purpose is to facilitate the reading of data in the
biological sciences
. In the world of the 21st Century, however, another definition has developed: The use of new developments in technology to accurately identify a person through measurement of specific unique traits, such as retinal scans and computer imaging of various features of the face. Students hoping to work in the field of biometrics or biostatistics may pursue their goal through the study of several areas, including computer sciences, software engineering, and electrical engineering, among many others.
