About the field of Accounting: Accounting is the practice of developing and analyzing information about the economic affairs of an organization, and verifying and reporting that information. It has been called the universal language of business. Graduate degrees in accounting can help students to broaden their skills, learn more about accounting within industry or public accounting, and gain insight to help them and the businesses they serve to compete in a global, technology-driven economy. A related degree would be an MBA with an Accounting concentration, which would give the student a more general overview of business administration as well as the specific focus on accounting. Because Accounting is a field requiring specific courses and information to be covered, many graduate degrees either require undergraduate coursework in accounting or require students to take foundational classes before pursuing the rest of the graduate degree.
