Program Description:

The M.S. in Biology is a 30 credit degree program that offers students several areas of concentration: physiology with an emphasis on neurobiology; ecology; molecular biology with an emphasis on biotechnology; and general biology. The program provides a solid background for further graduate study toward a doctorate in biology or related fields, provides teachers with additional experience in the theory and practice of biology, and trains biologists to pursue applied fields such as electron microscopy, tissue culture, ecology, pollution control, and biotechnology. At the end of the program, students may opt to do a thesis or take the non-thesis option. All students are required to pass a written comprehensive examination.
The M.S. in Biotechnology is a 36 credit degree program that prepares students for a variety of opportunities in the area of biotechnology and related fields such as molecular biology, immunology, genetic engineering, and protein biochemistry. Independent study or a thesis may be elected, giving students the opportunity to develop and complete a research project in biotechnology. All students are required to pass an exit examination.
