Program Description:
The Master of Urban Planning degree, which is nationally accredited, offers training in urban analysis, planningand management leading to careers in local government, community and nonprofit organizations and theprivate sector. Students must pursue an area of concentration; current standing specialization's are housing and community development, local economic development, and metropolitan growth management. The urban planning curriculum emphasizes the maintenance and revitalization of older urban areas, undertaken in the context of an awareness of the interdependence of core cities and their regions. Department faculty are heavily involved in revitalization efforts in the Detroit metropolitan area, and students have opportunity to become involved through individual projects, group project courses, and internships.
