Program Description:

The Program in Audiology and Communication Sciences (PACS) offers top-ranked graduate programs in audiology, deaf education, and speech and hearing sciences research. We take pride in the historic strength of our programs, our commitment to graduate education, and the exceptional stature of our faculty in the field. The Program has been training teachers of the deaf, in affiliation with Central Institute for the Deaf (CID), since 1914, and training audiologists and research scientists since 1947, with the establishment of the country’s first audiology training program. Today, we are ranked as one of the best programs in the country by both U.S. News & World Report and Academic Analytics’ Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index.

The graduate programs provide a comprehensive approach to training audiologists, teachers of the deaf, and speech and hearing scientists, emphasizing hands-on learning from the first day of enrollment.

*The graduate program in audiology leads to the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree, and includes three years of academic coursework and clinical practicum followed by a one-year clinical externship. Graduates are eligible for recommendation for certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and state certification/licensure.
*The graduate program in deaf education is a four-semester course of study leading to a master's degree in deaf education (M.S.D.E.). Academic coursework and practice teaching experiences take place over the course of the two-year program. Graduates are eligible for recommendation for state teacher certification and for certification from Council on Education of the Deaf (CED).
*The Speech and Hearing Sciences (Ph.D.) program includes academic coursework and research experience, as well as teaching at the university level.
