Program Description:

The curriculum of the Major in International Relations will strive to achieve a comprehensive andinterdisciplinary approach to understanding the Asia-Pacific region. The curriculum will center onregional studies of the Asia-Pacific region and on the study of international relations. Regionalstudies will bring to light the peculiar logic of each area (mainly East Asia, Southeast Asia and thePacific Rim), and compare the findings on those regions with those of others, confronting the themeof universality. The study of international relations will focus on the issues facing the Asia-Pacificregion today, and will approach the study of these issues in an international context from aninterdisciplinary approach, and through the practical study of problem solving and policy making.Special importance will be attached to the position of Japan as a member of the Asia-Pacific region,with consideration given to the entire region as a member of the global society. These two studieswill not be conducted separately, but will both be approached comprehensively within researchinstruction.
