Program Information
Degree Offered
M.A.Ed.
Program Description:
Our programs provide excellent opportunities for students to develop expertise as teachers through course and field experiences that draw upon their knowledge of specialty area content, instructional practices, and learning theory.
In addition to coursework that focuses on effective teaching, an integral component of our programs is our strong partnership with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. Through this collaborative relationship, students are engaged in the teaching and learning process in a variety of internships in diverse school settings in grades K-12 and are mentored by some of North Carolina's finest master teachers.
The Department of Education has gained a reputation at the state and national level for exemplary program models, integration of technology in instruction, and outstanding faculty who contribute significantly to the public schools. The Department of Education prepares teacher candidates to help students in classrooms across the United States be successful citizens in the 21st Century.
Two master's degree programs are offered for teacher education candidates with differing backgrounds. Both lead to the Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) degree and a North Carolina Teaching License: English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies are grades 9-12, and Foreign Languages are grades K-12.
