Program Description:
The Department of Biomedical Engineering is unique in that it is an engineering department within a medical school. As such, regular interaction with physicians and basic scientists provides a rich environment for collaboration and for focusing engineering research on relevant clinical and biomedical problems.
The BME Department is also a participant in the Virginia Tech - Wake Forest University Schoo lof Biomedical Engineering and Sciences (SBES). By having campuses in Blacksburg (Virginia Tech) and Winston-Salem (Wake Forest), this unique partnership brings the resources of the WFU School of Medicine together with the Virginia Tech Colleges of Engineering and Veterinary Medicine and provides exceptional opportunities for research and education.
PhD and MS degree programs in Biomedical Engineering are offered via the SBES. Specialty tracks include biomedical imaging, biomechanics, tissue/material engineering, and medical physics. Other areas of concentration are also available,
