Degree Offered
M.T.- Middle Education
Program Description:
The School of Education offers the Master of Teaching in Middle Education (6-8). The five-year Master of Teaching programs, which combine undergraduate and graduate study, are designed to incorporate eligibility for initial teaching licensure in Virginia in early, middle, secondary (biology, chemistry, English, French, German, history, social studies, mathematics, physics, science, Spanish) or special education (dual endorsement in emotional disturbance and mental retardation). Individuals pursuing licensure must have a liberal arts degree, as defined by VCU, germane to what they propose to teach. Individuals who do not hold the appropriate liberal arts degree should refer to the 2000-2001 Graduate Bulletin for information on satisfying the degree requirements through alternative means. Much of the NK through grade 12 curriculum is based on the Commonwealth of Virginia's current Standards of Learning (SOLs). The Division of Teacher Education Web site, connected to the School of Education Web page has a link to the SOLs. ADMISSION TO THE MASTER OF TEACHING WITH A CONCENTRATION IN MIDDLE EDUCATION IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED
