Degree Offered
M.Ed.
Program Description:
The School of Education offers an M.Ed. in Counselor Education in two tracks: school counseling and college student development and counseling. This program is designed primarily to prepare counselors for elementary, middle, and high schools in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the nation, and secondarily to prepare counselors for higher education and community agencies. The program leads to school counseling licensure and preparation for advanced graduate work at the post-master's level. While licensure as a teacher and teaching experience may be required for employment as a school counselor, applicants for the M.Ed. in Counselor Education program do not have to meet such criteria.
