Program Information
Degree Offered
Ph.D.
Format: Campus
Program Description:
The School of Business offers a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Program designed specifically for individuals intending to fill positions at institutions that require a balance of scholarly training, teaching, and practical application of the appropriate field of study. The program has less than 40 students, allowing for extensive one-to-one interaction between students and faculty. Each student must select a major in one of the following specialties: accounting, information systems and management/organizational behavior. Additionally, students must select one different minor from the specialties previously listed or the following: decision sciences, economics, finance, human resource management and industrial relations, international business, marketing, or an approved field outside the School of Business in a school or department that offers a doctoral program.
A basic tenet of the Ph.D. in Business Program is that the classic trilogy of research, teaching, and service typically invoked in the university mission statements is synergistic. The program strives to develop graduates who share this perspective and aspire to well-rounded individual roles within universities, colleges, and other learning organizations. For this reason, the program provides instruction in both research and teaching.
