Program Description:
The Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Humanities and Sciences offers advanced graduate study leading to a Master of Science degree in Computer Science. Both the theoretical and applied aspects of computer science are emphasized in this program. The program offers courses in a wide range of areas in computer science, including artificial intelligence, theory of computation, computer architecture, software engineering, programming languages, database, and computer graphics. These areas correspond to the research interests and specialization of the faculty in the Division of Computer Science. Both day and evening classes are available.A graduate of the master's degree program described above is well prepared for continuing studies towards a Ph.D., or for immediate employment in the computing field. Graduates from the program pursue careers in areas such as operating systems, graphics, database management, expert systems and other AI applications, programming language development, and medical applications of computer science. The computing field has experienced phenomenal growth in the past few years, and employment opportunities are excellent. There are still shortages of highly qualified computing professionals in education, industry, government, and the medical field. A graduate of the master's program can expect a challenging and financially rewarding career in computer science.
