Program Description:
Villanova University offers a doctoral program in philosophy, specializing in continental philosophy and the history of philosophy. Widely recognized as a center for continental studies, the Philosophy Department at Villanova offers a continuum of challenging courses in the continental tradition: from its post-Cartesian beginnings in Kant, Hegel, Kierkegaard and Nietzsche; through the classic texts of Husserl, Heidegger, Sartre, and Merleau-Ponty; up to a wide range of issues in contemporary hermeneutics, feminism, and deconstruction, found in writers like Derrida, Foucault, Lyotard, Levinas, Habermas, Gadamer, Ricoeur, Deleuze, Lacan, Baudrillard, Irigaray and other French feminists.
