Program Description:

The University of Wyoming's Creative Writing MFA program is an intensive two-year studio degree in poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. Special features include a flexible curriculum, cross-genre opportunities, opportunities for interdisciplinary study, and our Eminent Writers in Residence program, which brings distinguished authors to campus to work closely with our students. This year, our Eminent Writers were Colson Whitehead, John D'Agata, Rattawut Lapcharoensap, and Ed Roberson. In 2012-2013, our Eminent Writers in Residence will be Maggie Nelson and Mark Nowak; Rattawut Lapcharoensap will also return for another year of residency. We have a deeply committed faculty, a lively visiting writers series, an incomparable natural setting, and full funding for students, including teaching assistantships with light teaching loads, full tuition waivers, summer stipends, and support for travel and publication.

Accreditation:

The University of Wyoming has been accredited by the Higher Learning Commission continuously since 1923. Following the completion of its self-study, the University hosted its last Higher Learning Commission site review team and received continued accreditation in 2009-2010. The University’s next scheduled comprehensive review from the Higher Learning Commission will be in 2019-2020.

International Student Requirements:

TOEFL test scores must be provided (for applicants from non-English speaking countries). A minimum score of 540 on the written exam, 207 on the computerized exam, or 76 on the Internet-based test (TOEFL iBT) is required for full admission. TOEFL scores are valid for two years. OR Official IELTS scores sent to the Admissions Office. A minimum score of 6.0 is required for full admission. NOTE: If your TOEFL score does not reflect the minimum requirements, you have not taken the test, or you simply need supplemental English study before attending the University of Wyoming, you have the opportunity to attend our ELS Language Center to improve your English language skills and waive the TOEFL requirement.
