Program Description:

UW-Stout's MS in Technical and Professional Communication is built around a variety of coursework including: user-centered design, communication strategies for emerging media, project management, international technical communication, rehetorical theory, usability, and visual communication. By the end of the program students will be able to apply theoretical concepts and principles to the interpretation of technical and professional communication; select, design and conduct research; compose texts, designs and other deliverables, assess documentation for accuracy, usability and accessibility, plan a documentation schedule and monitor project progress, and evaluate communication strategies.

Accreditation:

Founded in 1891, UW-Stout has offered graduate level coursework since 1935. The Graduate School at UW-Stout is accredited through the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).

Eligibility Requirements:

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited university and a 2.75 cumulative GPA is required.

International Student Requirements:

Admission requirements include: (1) Admission to a graduate degree program and the Graduate School; (2) English Competency: Minimum required scores on the following are required: an IELTS score of 6.5, or TOEFL: 70 (iBT) 523 (paper). TOEFL scores under 79 [iBT (composite)], 550 (paper-based) will be required to take at least one advanced level language course through UW-Stout’s ESL program. Students admitted to the program whose English language skills are subsequently judged to be less than sufficient may be required to complete additional language preparation. Test scores should be sent directly to UW-Stout (school code #1740) Also required: Official copies of all post-secondary transcripts (translated into English), including proof of baccalaureate and/or highest earned degree; Undergraduae GPA of at least 3.0 (4.0 scale); Evidence of sufficient financial resources to complete a degree program; Non-refundable application fee payable to UW-Stout in U.S. funds.
