Program Description:

The M.S. degree in Manufacturing Engineering serves full-time engineers who pursue the degree part-time in order to advance their engineering expertise. The program is offered on-line; courses and lectures are provided via streaming video or pre-recording. A few classes are synchronous with all students online simultaneously. Most students complete the program in about three years as they are working full time while taking classes part time. Two to four years is the normal range of time to complete the program.

In this program, students will learn to:
Apply mathematical models to the analysis of practical engineering problems
Apply lean six sigma principles to the design and operation of manufacturing processes and systems
Analyze and apply relevant research to real world problems
Create technically rigorous and accurately worded written reports

Three in-depth areas of study are offered: Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Competitiveness, Engineering Materials and Processes

Computer Requirements for Students
Access to a dedicated computer by each student is necessary. In addition, a high-speed Internet connection is required for the streaming video. A few classes use specialized software such as Minitab, Arena, Solidworks or others. Software is not provided, students are required to obtain or have access to educational versions of the software used in the class.

Accreditation:

The Graduate School at UW-Stout is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools (NCA) to offer programs at the master's and education specialist levels.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be admitted with "full status" to the program, you must: Be employed full time as an engineer; Hold a bachelor's degree in a related; have earned an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0; have an advanced mathematical and statistical background.

International Student Requirements:

English Competency: Minimum required scores on the following are required: an IELTS score of 6.5, or TOEFL: 70 (iBT) 523 (paper). TOEFL scores under 79 [iBT (composite)], 550 (paper-based) will be required to take at least one advanced level language course through UW-Stout’s ESL program. Students admitted to the program whose English language skills are subsequently judged to be less than sufficient may be required to complete additional language preparation. Test scores should be sent directly to UW-Stout (school code #1740) Also required: Official copies of all post-secondary transcripts (translated into English), including proof of baccalaureate and/or highest earned degree; Undergraduae GPA of at least 3.0 (4.0 scale); Evidence of sufficient financial resources to complete a degree program; Non-refundable application fee payable to UW-Stout in U.S. funds.
