Program Description:

Are you interested in developing a comprehensive knowledge base in food science and nutrition?
Does learning to apply critical and strategic thinking to problem solving sound appealing to you?

The Master's of Food and Nutritional Sciences at UW-Stout might be for you!

The program combines a strong content knowledge base with expertise to conduct applied research within 3 concentrations: Food Science and Technology, Human Nutritional Science, Food Packaging

You can enter the program with an unrelated bachelor's degree to complete any of the concentrations provided that any identified content deficiencies are sufficiently addressed.

The program is unique in that courses taken for the nutrition concentration also meet the competencies to enter a dietetic internship wich allows you to become a registered dietitian upon passing the national exam.

Accreditation:

The Graduate School at UW-Stout is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools (NCA) to offer programs at the master's and education specialist levels. Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education.

Eligibility Requirements:

Admission requirements include a bachelors degree, minimum GPA of 3.0.

Coursework in the following content areas is required for admission:
Foods/Food Science - 1 semester
General Microbiology - 1 semester
Human Anatomy and Physiology - 1 semester
General Chemistry - 1 semester
Organic Chemistry with laboratory - 1 semester
Biochemistry - 1 semester
Nutrition - 1 semester
Advanced Nutrition or Advanced Foods or Experimental Foods - 1 semester
Basic Statistics - 1 semester

While a deficiency in these coursework requirements does not exclude admission, it may require completion of additional undergraduate coursework or an increase in the amount time required to earn a master's degree.

International Student Requirements:

English Competency: Minimum required scores on the following are required: an IELTS score of 6.5, or TOEFL: 70 (iBT) 523 (paper). TOEFL scores under 79 [iBT (composite)], 550 (paper-based) will be required to take at least one advanced level language course through UW-Stout’s ESL program. Students admitted to the program whose English language skills are subsequently judged to be less than sufficient may be requried to complete additional language preparation. Test scores should be sent directly to UW-Stout (school code #1740) Also required: Official copies of all post-secondary transcripts (translated into English), including proof of baccalaureate and/or highest earned degree; Undergraduae GPA of at least 3.0 (4.0 scale); Evidence of sufficient financial resources to complete a degree program; Non-refundable application fee payable to UW-Stout in U.S. funds.
