Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, like other engineering fields, is concerned with solving problems through application of scientific and practical knowledge for the benefit of mankind. Industrial engineers differ from other engineers in that they are well trained to focus on problems related to productivity, quality and continuous improvement. The industrial engineer can work in all organizations, from manufacturing facilities which produce automobiles or stereo systems, to service industries such as hospitals, banks, and distribution centers. Few other vocations offer such a wide variety of places to work and such different jobs to perform.
