Program Information

Degree Offered

Master of Science in Human Development and Family Studies, Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies

Format: Campus

Program Description:

The UW Human Ecology: Human Development and Family Studies Graduate Program provides opportunities for advanced study, research, and outreach across the lifespan. Three assumptions orient the philosophy and organization of the program. (1) We believe that students benefit from the perspectives of multiple disciplines and an understanding of the social, cultural, and historical contexts in which people develop. Hence, we encourage interdisciplinary and diverse forms of scholarship. (2) We believe that the application of knowledge to real-world issues is a fundamental responsibility of universities. Hence, faculty and students direct their work toward finding solutions to current challenges facing individuals, families, and communities. (3) We believe that graduate training is most effective when students work closely with faculty to pursue programs of research and outreach that are tailored to their individual needs.
